Apropos the news item on the poultry sector’s $100 million worth of orders (sFE; March 7), Thailand’s exports of poultry products are worth about $2 billion. So you can imagine how far the Indian poultry industry has to go before it can even make a humble claim to being a significant exporting country.
The success of the industry in Thailand is based on a highly efficient supply chain, production and processing facilities of the highest hygienic and technical quality, and logistics capabilities the likes of which India will take a decade (if not more) to emulate. Without tremendous vision, hard work and investment in infrastructure such expectations will remain a mere dream.
