Soft copies of e-tickets can get fliers through airport departure gates
The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), which operates the CSIA, has introduced a provision for passengers with confirmed electronic tickets or electronic boarding passes to be allowed access into the departure section by simply producing a soft copy of their tickets. This facility came into effect on Thursday.
“E-tickets include soft copies or images of tickets on smartphones, tablet PCs and laptops. The image of the e-ticket produced by the passenger on such an electronic device should be treated the same as issued by aircraft operators,” an MIAL spokesperson said.
However, airport authorities will not allow access to passengers based on a text message confirming the ticket or partial information pertaining to the ticket, he added.
Along with a soft copy of the e-ticket, passengers will also be required to produce a valid photo identity document, passport in case of foreign nationals, for scrutiny at the entrance to the departure section.
Earlier, passengers had the option of getting a print-out of theirticket by giving their passenger name record (PNR) number at the airport counter of the airline they are flying with. Nowadays, several airlines such as Jet Airways, Indigo, Spicejet and Go Air have started charging for the ticket print-outs as part of their ancillary revenue.
