Slapped, Mumbai cop’s daughter slaps molestation case on constable
Amid the debate for stricter laws to curb violence against women, two incidents involving cops were reported in the city. In one incident, a constable allegedly assaulted the daughter of a police sub-inspector, and in the other incident a woman traffic constable on duty was allegedly molested.
In the first case, the constable was reported to be dating the woman, the 32-year-old daughter of an Assistant Sub Inspector.
She alleged that constable Madhukar Rane (35) attached to the local arms division of the Mumbai Police had slapped her on Monday night following a dispute. Although she has registered a complaint under Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code, police are taking it as a case of a spat between a couple.
According to the police, Rane and the woman are residents of Dadar Police Lines and have been dating for six years now. Her family pressed them to get married but Rane’s family was against the match. On Monday night, the two got into an argument and in a fit of rage, Rane allegedly slapped her.
“We had to register the complaint of molestation but are yet to verify the incident. It is only a fight between a couple,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dadar division, Ramesh Dhanwat.
In the second incident, Matunga police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly molesting a traffic
