Carnatic singer, Bombay Jayashree has been nominated in the Best Original Song category for the Pi lullaby in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. The Chennai-based singer who is elated at the honour bestowed upon her says, “I am too tired and dazed to react to this news. It is simply fantastic. It will take some time for the news to sink in.”

Regarding her contribution to the film, the singer feels that it was perhaps fate that music director Mychael Danna and director Ang Lee happened to listen to one of her records. Though unable to understand the lyrics, the duo, however, immediately connected with the mellifluous quality and tenor in her voice. “Both Danna and Lee were very clear about what they wanted from me. They came to India and spent a few days during which we discussed the lyrics. The lullaby connects to the story and is an intrinsic part. The song is not placed anywhere just for the sake of it, which adds to its value,” explains the singer.
