Silver prices spurted by Rs 309 to Rs 58,215 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, tracking a firming trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in March rose by Rs 309, or 0.53 per cent, to Rs 58,215 per kg in business turnover of 4,865 lots.

Likewise, the white metal for delivery in May traded higher by Rs 289, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 59,585 per kg in 257 lots.

Market analysts said reports of a firming trend in the global markets mainly influenced silver prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, silver climbed 0.3 per cent to USD 31.50 an ounce in early trade in Singapore today.
