Jaipur: Shyam Telecom would be reinforcing its presence in a big way in its basic and CDMA-based services in Rajasthan, following its agreement with Bharti Tele-Ventures, earlier this week for exiting its GSM business in Rajasthan.

A top official of Shyam Telecom told eFE under condition of anonymity, that 50,000 more lines would be added in the state and the company would reach out to 20 more cities in the fixed line circle and wireline category.

An investment of Rs 150 crore was envisaged by Shyam Telelink by the end of this fiscal year for expanding to rural areas and new uncovered districts in Rajasthan in the area of both rural telephony as well as wireless telecommunications services.

Company officials did not deny that competition looms large in the basic services circle, with Reliance Infocomm as well as BSNL being mega-players in the telecom sector in the country.

Having established itself as the largest GSM player, Shyam Telecom promoted Hexacom had succeeded in establishing a good subscriber base to the tune of 2.5 lakh as well as acquiring a number of expansion plans under its wings.

Shyam Telecom’s other venture Shyam Telelink - which operates the CDMA service - Citimobile - is also facing a torrid time, following tough competition from Reliance, which had entered the arena a few months back.

Sometime back, WiLL based ’Citimobile’ services had come out with new tariff packages in order to tap the growing lower middle class segment of consumers as well as the student community. Small traders and dealers were also targetted for the WiLL based technology for their daily operations.

The fixed line brand ’Rainbow’ had recently cleared a blue print to expand into cities like Sri Ganganagar, Hanu-mangarh, Sardarshahar, Laxmangarh, Kotputli, Sikar, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Mount Abu, Behror and Shah-pura. Shyam Telelink’s ’Rainbow’ - is already operational in Jodhpur, Pali, Udai-pur, Bhilwara, Alwar, Bhiwari, Khairthal, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Beawar and Jaipur.
