: With the increasing threat perception in India, maintaining safety at key locations like bustling markets, airports, hospitals, enterprise campuses etc is an arduous task. As it is, the existing surveillance equipments like closed-circuit television (CCTV), used for day and night surveillance are plagued by various shortcomings. Hence, the need for the desired apparatus which could simply enable the security personnel to see, interpret and respond is felt even more.

Help is round the corner as security operators can visually assess the threat targets with new infrared vision systems called Discoverii. These are compact systems used to provide surveillance for location, where video inspection is required at all times under all lighting conditions. Bringing these systems to India is Vectra Glosec, which is engaged in talks with companies like PVR, Mumbai International Airport, Biocon and Ginger Hotels for these systems. It will also be offered to the ministry of defence and other law enforcement agencies involved in maintaining internal security.

Rohit Nath, CEO, Vectra Glosec informs that visualisation technology is increasingly leveraging advancements in electro-optics and image processing to deliver advanced night vision surveillance and graphical user control systems to the defence and civilian security markets.

Most current night vision solutions for surveillance are marred by range limits of less than 200 metres. Besides, existing solutions that exceed this range limit are both large in size and high in cost, and primarily only available to military, law enforcement and government agencies. Closed-circuit television is often used to monitor people going into and out of shops, airports, railway stations and other public places. However, there are many problems in using this kind of system if an accurate count of people is needed.

Another kind of sensor, an active infrared beam, is also problematic, as two people cutting the beam at the same time will only register as one. Sophisticated thermal imagers are normally only used in areas such as defence, as their cost is prohibitive for other markets.

In such a scenario, company officials inform that Discoverii is a sophisticated, high-quality 25x zoomable camera with specialised filters and optics. It is synchronised automatically with the laser illuminator, which zooms automatically, allowing the camera to provide a natural contrast image over one mile away in zero light.

Discoverii is capable of illuminating and viewing a scene more than 1,000 metres away, using a low level infrared laser synchronised to an infrared sensitive camera. The user sees a...
