Moinuddin Shams and Nijamuddin Shams, sons of former AIFB leader and former food and supplies minister Kalimuddin Shams, were welcomed to the ruling Trinamool Congress fold Sunday, a day after they resigned from Forward Bloc.
The duo were welcomed by TMC All India General Secretary Mukul Roy, who said leaders and workers from other parties were taking interest in the development programmes initiated by the Mamata Banerjee government.
“We welcome leaders and workers from other political parties, which we hope will strengthen our party and the government as well in help in carrying our development programmes,” Roy said.
The Shams brothers said over the years they felt AIFB had deviated from its core ideals.
Moinuddin Shams was the Kolkata district secretary of AIFB, while Nijamuddin Shams was a party councillor in Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
Sunday, the state municipal affairs and urban development minister Firhad Hakim announced the list of TMC candidates nominated for the upcoming elections to Howrah Municipal Corporation.
