BJP’s legislature party leader in Vidhan Sabha Hukum Singh and his deputy Satish Mahana met Governor B L Joshi on Thursday and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident of police lathicharge on party workers when they were demonstrating in Shamli district on Monday.
The party workers were demanding the arrest of those responsible for the gangrape of a girl.
Addressing the mediapersons, Hukum Singh said the girl was raped by over half a dozen men while the police were trying to save the accused.
Two youths brought a girl from Uttarakhand to Shamli,
where seven persons allegedly gang-raped her, Singh said. The two youths were arrested from the spot while others managed to escape, he said.
As police failed to arrested the others involved in the crime, BJP staged a protest in the district, Singh said.
