The Kerala Police Sunday registered a rape case against JD(S) MLA Jose Thettayil and his son, Adarsh, based on a complaint from a young woman over a sex video. Thettayil was the transport minister in the previous LDF government.

In her complaint to the Ernakulam (rural) police, the woman, an MCA graduate, has said the MLA and his son had sexually exploited her many times in the last two years on the promise that Adarsh would eventually marry her.

The police FIR, registered under Section 376 of IPC, has named Thettayil as the first accused and his son as the second accused.

Along with the complaint, the woman, a native of Angamaly in Ernakulam district, has adduced video clips that allegedly show scenes of intimacy. She said she shot her bedroom scenes with the MLA and his son for evidence. Thettayil represents the Angamaly Assembly seat.

The woman's complaint states that she had sex with Adarsh who promised to marry her.

She was “forced to oblige to sexual overtures” of Thettayil too out of fear that if she did not, the marriage with Adarsh would not happen. Later she came to know that Adarsh was planning for another marriage. After that she installed a webcam in her room and videographed the "intimate scenes" with the father and the son.

The woman told the police that when she had threatened the father and the son with the video, Thettayil through his kin, informed her that the marriage would take place in May 2013. As it did not happen, she decided to approach the police.

She has told the police that the MLA befriended her in 2007 during the opening of a business venture by her father. Thettayil obtained her mobile number in 2010 and introduced his son to her in 2011.

Meanwhile, Thettayil has said that he knows the woman. “She had approached us with the intention to marry my son. She might have a grudge towards our family as we had rejected her proposal. The video is morphed by the woman, a computer graduate. There is a politically conspiracy behind the allegation, which would be fought legally,” he said.

The woman however said she stood by her complaint. “I would call a press meet at an apt time to reveal more,'” she said. Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said a special crime branch team would probe the case.
