SC to hear telcos’ plea on mobile tower removal

Telecom operators on Friday moved the Supreme Court challenging the Rajasthan High Court’s order that asked them to remove all mobile phone towers — suspected to be potential health hazards due to the radiation they emit — falling in the vicinity of schools, hospitals, playgrounds and densely populated localities.
The HC on November 27, 2012 had directed telecom providers operating in the state to remove all such towers within 2 months.
The apex court in September had refused to interfere with the HC’s interim order asking the state government to remove all such hazardous cellphone towers.
