: State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has extended its real time gross settlement (RTGS) remittance facility to customers from this week. The bank had gone live on RTGS with bank-to-bank remittances as early as July 16.
The Thiruvananthapuram Main, Poojappura, Kesavadasapuram and SSI Thiruvananthapuram branches in Thiruvananthapuram City and all the SBT branches in Mumbai have commenced handling RTGS remittance transactions for customers, according to a bank release. This will facilitate transfer of funds by a customer to any RTGS enabled branch of any bank in the country and the funds will be credited within a maximum period of two hours.
Nissan Launches X-Trail
Japanese car maker Nissan marked its entry into the Indian automobile industry with the launch of its sports utility vehicle (SUV), X-Trail, in Chennai, on Monday. Speaking at the sidelines of the unveiling ceremony, Mr Yasuaki Hashimoto, vice president, marketing and sales (Asia Oceania) said that Nissan's focus at present is to establish its brand image in the country. Since it is mandatory for cars sold in India to conform to the Euro norms, Nissan imports X-Trail from Japan, though it has facilities in countries closer to India, like Indonesia, Phillipines and Malaysia. The `Comfort' variant of X-Trail is priced at Rs 21.08 lakh, while the `Elegance' would cost Rs 24.14 lakh (both ex-showroom, Chennai).
`Food-for-work' Rice Seized In Tuticorin
An attempt to smuggle about 2,400 tonnes of rice, meant for "food-for-work" scheme, through Tuticorin of Tamil Nadu to Naya Azadpur near Delhi has been foiled by revenue officials. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials on Monday seized the Rs 3 crore worth rice, hours before it was to be smuggled in railway wagons, following a raid on a godown, officials said.
Cable TV In TN Not Affected
Cable television in Tamil Nadu was not affected as the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Owners Association had not joined the strike. President of the association, Kayal Elavarasu, said that since the association had not joined the strike, there was `no impact' on cable TV operations in the state, he said adding that the association believed in holding talks instead of resorting to strike. The all India cable TV forum had threatened to go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday protesting against the proposed increase in service tax on cable television and the move to bring the multi-system operators (MSOs) under the tax net.
