: Here comes a new one in the whacky and outrageous genre—fashion accessories for the teeth. A smile, as they say, is worth a thousand dollars, and you can make it indeed so by getting gleaming diamonds and platinum encrusted on your teeth!

32 Reasons, a recent venture by the husband-wife team of Dr Sagar Shah and Dr Reshma Shah, at Chowpatty, Mumbai, aims to pep up your smile when you say cheese with jewellery on your tooth. Back from the UK after acquiring the latest in dentistry, Dr Sagar promises to give his clients a smile that will make all the difference with several techniques like smile enhancement, digital imaging, cosmetic veneers, bleaching, tooth coloured restorations, root canals, crown and bridge work and the entire works—full mouth rehabilitation. Dr Reshma Shah, with a special interest in paediatric dental care, conducts dental programmes for children and on their parents, thus increasing awareness about developing good oral health habits.

But let’s get back to the tooth accessories. If you are a football fan, get a football image on your teeth. The process is very simple, says Dr Sagar, similar to any orthodontic bracket (braces). First, the tooth on which the accessory is to be placed is cleaned and then etched. A bonding solution is then put on the tooth.

The accessory, in this case in 18-carat gold, is then ‘light cured’. The bonding solution is also cured and the accessory is stuck on to the tooth. The entire process takes about 10-15 minutes. Fashion adventurers need have no qualms. There is no cutting or drilling done on the teeth. And there definitely is no pain, Dr Shah assures us. The jewel is only 0.6 mm thick, so it will feel a trifle uncomfortable, but only initially, till one gets used to it, he adds.

Dr Shah has transparent crystals, rubies and birth stones, too, for decorating one’s teeth. Dolphins and goldfish are available for sea lovers.
