Sanjay Dutt gets rousing welcome in Lucknow

Lucknow: Making his political debut as the Samajwadi Party candidate for the Lucknow Parliamentary constituency, Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt virtually launched his election campaign with a roadshow in Lucknow amidst much fanfare and other SP leaders and celebrities in tow.
Arriving in Lucknow for the first time after his candidature was announced, the actor started at the head of a procession flanked by wife Manyata, SP General Secretary Amar Singh, MP Jaya Bachchan and Bhojpuri singer and actor Manoj Tiwari, who too is aspiring to enter the Lok Sabha on the party ticket from Gorakhpur.
"Mai yahan logon ko pyar karne aya hun aur pyar lene aya hun. Log mujhe jaadu ki jhappi dein" (I am here to love people and seek their love. People here shoud give me a magic hug), Dutt told reporters.
Clad in white kurta-payjama and Nehru vest, Dutt said that he was eager to work for the people of the city even as opposition parties have launched a veiled campaign to paint the "reel-life hero" as a "real-life villian" by highlighting his conviction in a 15-year-old Arms Act case for possessing an AK-47 rifle.
Dutt, who confirmed only yesterday that he would indeed contest the coming polls as an SP candidate after his sister had expressed disappointment at his decision to join a party other than Congress, is considered a "strong candidate" by other contenders for the seat.
The actor is expected to announce his future plans when he meets the press later in the day.

SIR-I have to say only that SANJU BABA must not say any thing against his sister. He must not forget that time when he was in Jailand it was his sister who worked vigorously for his release. She met the UPS cahirperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and it was she who worked for SANJU BABA's release. According to the law ofland she has every right to retain her identity as "DUT'S" He is at liberty to joing any political pary or his is independent to make his own decision and can chart his own future but he must remember that she her sister was behing him when he needed most outside help. How is it that when a celebrity is involved it takes for law to take 'its own course' ? And when , at last, judgement is given, is he going to be out on bail FOR EVER ? Law, in India, is not the same for everybody.

Perhaps Sanjay Dutt has reformed and is a new person. He may have made mistakes in the past. However what I don't like is the fact that he chose to contest as a SP candidate when his father was a true diehard Congress person and his loyalty for the party wavered not once in his lifetime. If Sunil Dutt were alive I wonder what he would think about his son's choice.

Once upon a time,the chambal dacoits were the favourites with SP.Besides many small time dacoits even Phulan devi made it to the parliament.Now there are enough goons available in our cities and villages and so it harvest time for SP.I wonder how the likes of Amitabh and Jaya are patrons to this anti national outfit.
