Sahara threaten to move Warriors out of Pune
Sources in the Pune team revealed that the franchise is already in talks with Nagpur's Vidarbha Cricket Association and DY Patil Stadium in Nerul. “We had two offers earlier from Nagpur and DY Patil to have some IPL matches there. We have kept our options open. Sahara is upset with MCA's move. We have been co-operative with them,” a Pune Warriors source said.
However, the major problem if Pune chooses Nagpur will be the heat during the months of April and May in the city, located in the centre of India. Deccan Chargers played some of their matches in Nagpur earlier but players later complained about the heat. The VCA's stadium, at Jamtha, is located far from from the city and spectator response could be lukewarm.
DY Patil has earlier played host to Pune and the franchise were happy with the arrangements.
Pune Warriors might also explore the option of shifting base to Kanpur's Green Park Stadium. “We will ask BCCI if we can take our franchise there. Kanpur will see a better turnout as hardly any cricket is being played there,” the source added.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that BCCI president N Srinivasan will try to mediate between MCA authorities and Sahara soon.
