The high speed Airport Express Link will be undergoing the safety inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in the coming week. CMRS R K Kardam on Thursday said the 22.7-km-long Metro corridor will undergo the safety clearance inspection on January 15 and 16.

The schedule of the inspection comes nearly three months after the Delhi Metro approached the CMRS for the safety inspection. “The dates for the inspection on the Airport Metro line has been decided. The inspection would be carried out on the corridor on January 15 and 16,” Kardam said.

The Reliance-backed operator, Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd had forwarded the safety check application to the DMRC on November 5. The application requesting for an inspection was forwarded to the CMRS by Delhi Metro on November 19. However, since the CMRS asked for additional documents and more load tests on the girders, the inspection was postponed.

Based on the outcome of the safety inspection, a date for the resumption of the Airport Metro will be finalised, officials said. The inspection will also determine the operational speed of the line. The nature of efficacy of the repair carried out on the corridor would also be determined during the inspection.
