The premium for the forward dollar finished lower on fresh receivings by exporters.
The benchmark six-month forward dollar premium payable in July ended down at 169-1/2-171/1-2 paise from last weekend's close of 171-1/2-172-1/2 paise.
Far-forward contracts maturing in January closed weak at 335-337 paise from 337-338-1/2 paise.
The RBI fixed the reference rate for the US dollar at 54.0415 and for euro at 71.4130.
The rupee improved further against the pound sterling to 81.58 from last Friday's close of 82.67 and also remained firm against the Japanese yen to 57.44 per 100 yen from 58.13.
It, however, fell back against the euro to 71.47 from previous close of 71.35.
