Rs 5.6 L crore needed to modernise railways: Expert group

The expert group on modernisation of Indian Railways has recommended an investment of Rs 5.6 lakh crore during 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans, while the Safety Review Committee has sought an investment of R1 lakh crore for five years, rail minister Pawan Bansal told the Rajya Sabha on Friday while replying to a question.
“The Expert Group for Modernisation of Indian Railways and the High Level Safety Review Committee have submitted recommendations for modernisation of railways and a road map for improving safety,” Bansal said.
