The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal on Monday awarded compensation of nearly Rs 19 lakh to man who lost one leg after being hit by a recklessly driven tempo in July 2011. Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) ordered Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the tempo was insured, to pay Rs 18,75,195 to 40-year-old Paharganj resident Nandan Mukherjee. The 40-year-old was hit by a tempo while he was crossing a road. The vehicle ran over his right leg, which had to be amputated. The Tribunal noted that he had suffered 75 per cent disability of right lower limb. The driver and the owner of the tempo were held liable to pay the compensation, but since the vehicle was insured, MACT presiding officer Dinesh Bhatt ordered the insurance company to pay the compensation.
