To a query on sourcing of its components from India for serving Renault global market, he said last year the company had sourced about Rs 500 crore worth of components from Indian market and this year the company was expecting "equivalent" value on the sourcing of its components. Nassif was here to participate in the three-day conference "Auto Serve" organised by industry body CII. British Deputy High Commissioner Mike Nithavrianakis who inaugurated the event said, the after market support in his country created four lakh jobs.

"It is not big market like yours. After market witnessed consolidation. India cannot replicate UK model because the UK is such an open market", he said.

Auto Serve Conference Chairman R Dinesh said the theme of the event was "Innovative Strategies for Profitable Automotive Sector" and added in the coming months there would be "significant" changes in this sctor given the growth of the industry. "For example, in UK the vehicle population is low. But the after sales market is growing", he said.

To a query, he said the domestic after market sector was facing "skill gap" and suggested there should be more industry-academia partnerships to generate "skilled employees".
