West Bengal chief minister's advisory council for industry member Saugata Roy has suggested stopping only-housing related real estate in closed industrial units in West Bengal.

Roy, who will submit his draft industrial policy report to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tomorrow, wants to ban housing related real estate in the closed factories.

"I have suggested stopping housing real estate in closed units and instead the land should be used for industry," Roy said in an interactive session with MCC Chamber of Commerce & Industry members.

He did not reveal details but hinted that there could be some kind of alternate methodology in the report to attract IT companies those cannot be offered SEZ status.

Infosys who had been offered 50 acres of land was seeking SEZ status as pre-condition before they could move ahead with the campus in this state.

Banerjee may meet industry representatives tomorrow to seek their view on the draft for their suggestions.

The state was seeking a revised industry policy to attract investment in the state maintaining no-land acquisition for industry.

Roy said the report was prepared after taking inputs from seven industry bodies.

He reiterated that land acquisition for industry was not possible as it was the party's stand.

Speaking about land acquisition for infrastructure projects, he said the railways had to ease their stand on no compensation to encroachers.
