The Reserve Bank will shortly issue 100 denomination bank notes with inset letter L in the Mahatma Gandhi Series - 2005.

These bank notes will carry inset letter 'L' in both the numbering panels bearing signature of RBI Governor D Subbarao, RBI said in a statement today.

The year of printing 2012 would be on the reverse of the bank note, it added.

"The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Rs 100 bank notes in Mahatma Gandhi Series- 2005, issued earlier," it said.

All the bank notes in the denomination of 100 issued by the bank in the past will continue to be legal tender, it added.

This L word on 100 denomination Bank Note, and it will give the real recognition to avoid duplicity of the notes.
