Ranjit Sinha is new CBI director

Just a day before the petition questioning the selection of CBI director was to come for hearing before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), the government appointed Ranjit Sinha, the present Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, as the next CBI Director. Sinha is a 1974 batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre.
His name was cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet. A statement issued said, “The competent authority has appointed Ranjit Sinha, IPS (1974) as director, CBI for two years with effect from the date of assumption of charge.”
Sinha’s elevation has resulted in resentment among the other senior IPS officers. One of the officers of 1975 batch and Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has already approached CAT.
