



Mumbai, Feb 5: Barbie, the famous fashion doll icon from the USA, will soon be offering a range of designer shirts in India. Mattel, the world’s leader in toy brands including Barbie among others, has awarded the Mumbai-based The Shirt Company (TSC) the licencee for Barbie Clothing in India.
Accordingly, TSC will introduce to the Indian market two major shirt collections — one spring summer and the other fall winter collection. This premium product provides value and will be available in the Indian market from Rs 299 upwards.
Golden Status Export House claims TSC is a key player in the international arena for Barbie brand and works closely with Smith & Brooks, UK the official licensee for Barbie Clothing in Europe to manufacture and export the Barbie range for European markets. It provides garments to brands like Barbie, Tom Taylor, Esprit, Marco Polo and other brands.
California-based Mattel Inc is the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toys and family products. Its best-selling brands include Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fischer-Price and American Girl.
TSC chairman Shivanand Shetty said in a statement, we hope to garner majority stake in the branded retail segment for girl’s apparel in India. Barbie is the world’s largest girl’s character lifestyle brand and we expect similar interest for it in India too.
The company’s distribution strategy includes both a B2B and B2C approach. The brand will be available through multi-brand outlets and key retailers, we are also establishing four independent stores in Mumbai and Delhi to allow our customers the opportunity to enjoy Barbie in an absolute girlie space!
Each range will have three stories and a line of essentials, says TSC in a statement. The launch of the first range is the Spring Summer 2003 with the Nature Hike. This range features around 35 designs. The next story will be Poetry in Pink and Tiki Tech all during spring summer with each of these stories having 50 styles in knits, wovens, embroidery, denims etc, providing the girls an opportunity to experience the fashionable world of Barbie’. The Fall winter range will follow thereafter with a launch sometime in August/September.
