As the strike of resident doctors in Jaipur entered the ninth day on Thursday, the Union Health Ministry offered the state government help in terms of manpower to meet their emergency medical needs.

“We have told the Rajasthan government that we are willing to provide any help, including doctors for emergency medical needs. They told us that there is no need at the moment, but they will let us know,” said Health Secretary P K

Pradhan.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had said that the government was meeting the medical requirements with the help of the Army, BSF, Railways, private hospitals and retired doctors.

On Thursday, 111 doctors resumed duty at SMS Hospital in Jaipur taking the total number of medicos rejoining work to 158. Hospital Superintendent L C Sharma confirmed that the doctors had rejoined work. “Out of the total 360 resident doctors, 158 have resumed duties,” he said.

Since the start of the strike on December 21, the state government has invoked RESMA and arrested over 400 doctors. Resident doctors came in support of government doctors and joined the stir and several of them were also arrested.
