With the 2014 election results just a fortnight away, the railway board has drawn up a list of pending infrastructure projects for the next railway minister.

Projects worth Rs 50,000 crore, including the 534-km (Rs 16,000 crore) stretch of the eastern freight corridor to be built on the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, Mumbai's elevated corridor (Rs 25,000 crore), Bihar loco factories project (Rs 3,300 crore) are on top priority.

The railway board wants the new minister to get these projects rolling before announcing any new ambitious plans.

This list was prepared after cabinet secretary Ajit Seth wrote to all ministries asking them to prepare a status report on the flagship projects of ministry and if there is any delay and the cause of delay.

“The new minister might like to announce some new railway projects but our request to him would to be first get the stuck projects rolling. We might have to bring out fresh bidding documents for the project that are to be implemented on public-private partnership (PPP),” a railway board official said.

“We hope the next government will give a thrust on PPP as through internal resources we won't be able to take much pressure,” the official added.
