Pune is safe and secure: Police to NE students on tour to city

As part of a three-day national integration tour by Students' Experience in Inter-State Living (SEIL), a team of 30 students from Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh reached Pune on Sunday. Interacting with them, the city police on Monday assured them that the city is safe and secure for them.

Several incidents of attacks on North-east students were reported at Cantonment police station in August this year.

During the tour, they will stay with local families and visit different places to understand the culture of Pune. Today they visited the Cantonment police station and they said it was very special. Senior inspector Sushma Chavan, the first female police officer to head a police station in Pune, and inspector Nitin Jadhav briefed the students about the steps taken by them for preventing attacks on North-east students.

Senior inspector Chavan said situation in Pune is good and safe for North-east students.

She told them about the policing system followed in the city. She explained how communal tensions are tackled with the help of responsible citizens. She also asked the students about the policing system in their respective states. She appealed to the students to believe in the feeling of oneness. “Hum sab ek hain (We all are one),” she said.
