Panjab University Senators will consider the recommendations of a committee pertaining to evaluation of teachersí performance by students during the second part of the Senate meeting scheduled for Sunday.
As per the recommendations, only those students with 75 per cent attendance will be permitted to evaluate teachers and would write the feedback based on communication abilities, regularity, response to queries, and informal behaviour of teachers. The students have to submit the feedback forms in a closed envelop, without disclosing the identity of teachers.
Another matter that will come up for approval will be that the student who secures the first position in the masters course at the Department of Hindi, PU, will get Rs 33,000 as scholarship. PU alumnus and renowned lyricist Irshad Kamil has donated Rs 4 lakh to the university in the memory of his mother, late Begum Iqbal Bano.
The scholarship will be called ĎLate Begum Iqbal Bano Memorial Hindi Scholarshipí. It will be effective from the academic session 2013-14. The meritorious student will get Rs 1,200 per month for 10 months in the first year of the MA Hindi course, followed by Rs 2,100 per month for 10 months in the second year. The student will not be barred from receiving any other scholarship simultaneously.
The Senate will also debate the proposal of the Syndicate to frame a policy for grant of affiliation for short-term courses sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Syndics had recommended that these courses should be at par with the add-on courses, the sanctioned strength for short term courses be fixed at 50 students per course and admission to these courses be made along with the commencement of the session of regular classes, that is in June.
Moreover, the House will also discuss whether to grant approval to new add-on courses, including floriculture and landscaping.
If the Senate gives a nod to the recommendations of the committee to frame rules and decide the number of seats and fee structure, then MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, will have PG Diploma in Cosmetology and Beauty Care under the innovation programme of the UGC.
