Bangalore, May 25:: Shocked over a series of hooch tragedies, Karnataka's next government would be ‘very strict’ in implementing the prohibition order.

A clear indication to this effect was today given by B S Yeddyurappa, who will take oath as Chief Minister later this week.

Replying to a question whether the next government would reconsider the prohibition, the BJP leader replied in the negative and said, "we must be very strict about that".

"The question (of withdrawing the order) does not arise," Yeddyurappa, who had imposed the order during his brief tenure in 2007, said.

Asked about the recent spurious liquor tragedies in the state, Yeddyurappa said measures would be tightened and officers would be asked to ensure that such incidents did not recur.

Congratulating the people for BJP's victory in the state, which was the first by the saffron party in the southern region, he attributed the success to senior leaders.

To a question about his thrust areas, Yeddyurappa said he would strive for the overall development of the state and implement the promises made in his party's election manifesto.
