President confers Lakshmipat Singhania awards on 6 biz leaders

President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday conferred the 8th Lakshmipat Singhania National Leadership Awards on six business leaders, including Wipro chairman Azim Premji and HCL’s CEO, Vineet Nayar.

The awards were organised by JK Organisation in association with Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow to honour individuals who have contributed to the country’s development and growth.

Mukherjee said, “Singhania’s entrepreneurial spirit and contribution to Indian business and society at large is well known. It is thus appropriate that JK Organisation has teamed up with IIM Lucknow, which caters to nurturing leadership talent in the country.”

The awards were presented in three categories — Business, Science & Technology and Community Service. Other awardees included Mohan Sharma, former director of Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai; Head of Bio-informatics Centre, Institute of Microbial Technology at Chandigarh, Dr Gajendra Pal; Aakar Charitable Trust Chairman, Amla Ruia and founder of Mahila Vikas Samiti, Bihar, Leela Kumari.
