Pre-placements at B-schools start on a mixed note

The placement season at premier B-schools has started on a mixed note with a few like the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) at Bangalore and Lucknow getting a slew of pre-placement offers (PPOs) and pre-placement interviews (PPIs) while others like the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) still waiting for companies to make such offers.

Till date, IIMB) has received 57 PPOs and 26 PPIs compared with 93 PPOs last year. “More PPOs will be coming in. PPOs can come in till December when our lateral placements begin. A large number of the PPOs are from consulting firms. Other sectors such as marketing, finance and IT have also offered PPOs. Financial institutions and banks normally send their PPOS a little later in the year,” said IIMB career development services head Sapna Agarwal.

Even the new IIMs, like the one at Rohtak, have already notched PPOs from majors like Tata Motors and Berger Paints.

PPOs are offered by companies based on students’ performance during the two-month summer internship period while PPIs are interviews with a company for students who have interned with them and may later convert into a PPO.

When it comes to conversion rates, almost 90% of the PPOs are accepted by at IIMB students. IIM Lucknow has already notched more than 50 PPOs and 35 PPIs and all the traditional recruiters like McKinsey and Boston Consulting Group have made their offers. “There has been 100% conversion from these traditional recruiters for the
