Powergrid, which has already established 70,000 kms transmission system during last 18 years, will set up an additional 70,000 kms in next five years, its Chairman S K Chaturvedi said.

Addressing the employees of western region here, he said along with construction, the maintenance of previous 70,000 kms transmission system was also necessary.

Chaturvedi said the construction budget for this region during the financial year was to the tune of Rs 8040 crores.

However from this year onwards it would be revised to Rs 12,000 crores to meet the future target, a release from powergrid said.
