SummaryThe private sector is much ahead of the public sector in terms of power capacity addition in the third quarter of FY14

The private sector is much ahead of the public sector in terms of power capacity addition in the third quarter of FY14 with the private sector achieving nearly 112% of its target against the government’s 58.2% achievement. The government sector’s achievement includes the state and the central power companies’ capacity addition for the quarter with the state sector taking a lead in terms of achievement.

While the state sector has been able to achieve 59% of its capacity addition plan adding 850 mw, the central sector has been able to achieve 57.4% adding 1,265 mw in the third quarter. The private sector power companies added 1,815 mw during the same period, according to a ministry of power report.

However, capacity addition by the fiscal end is expected to be half of the target with the ministry reporting a capacity addition of 8,728 mw up to December 31st against the target of adding 18,432 mw by the fiscal end.

“The capacity addition for the nine months period has been 60% of the target. The target up to December was 14,466.3 mw,” a ministry official said.

However, the private sector picked up the rate of capacity addition only in the third quarter adding 190 mw more than its target enabling an overall achievement of 60% during the nine months period.
