Politicians, academics among 36 nominated to PU Senate
The list of 36 nominated members of the Panjab University Senate that has been finalised consists of an eclectic mix of politicians, academicians and experts from other fields.
Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur, Shiromani Akali Dal MP Naresh Gujral and senior BJP leader Satya Pal Jain are prominent among those nominated.
The sitting senators who have been renominated include Shelley Walia from the Department of English, I S Chadha, a retired Foreign Service Officer, V K Sibal, former Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), and former Dean University Instructions S K Sharma.
Two of the candidates who were defeated in the Senate elections held in August have been nominated. They are former PGI director and cardiologist Dr K K Talwar and Associate Professor at University School of Open Learning Emanual Nahar.
Punam Suri, president of DAV College Management Committee, also figures on the list along with president of District Congress Committee of Congress H S Lucky. Prof D V S Jain from the Department of Chemistry, Prof Preeti Mahajan from the Department of Library and Information Science, and Prof Nandita from the Department of Education are there on the list too.
Other members are Rashpal Malhotra, director, Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), and Dr S S Johal, former vice-chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala.
Former vice-chancellor R P Bambah also figures on the list. So does Anil Monga who is a co-ordinator at Centre for Police Administration.
