Police registers case in JNU video clip incident
The varsity was rocked by the scandal early this month after its security officers informed authorities with a video recording purpotedly showing two students in a compromising position in a hostel room.
“A case has been registered under section 292 (sale of obscene materials) and Sections 66E and 67 of Information Technology Act against unknown persons,” a senior police official said.
The JNU administration had approached police on February 11 after an inquiry committee headed by Chief Proctor H B Bohidar submitted its report to Vice Chancellor S K Sopory which recommended that the three students involved in the circulation of the video clip be chargesheeted.
The University had expelled two students and rusticated a third for their involvement in the scandal. The varsity had made it clear that strong action would be taken against those found guilty.
The boy and girl were students of the School of Languages, while the boy who allegedly shot the video is a student of computer applications, the official said. The girl left the university last year.
The incident came to light when department of the university submitted the clip which was in circulation to the Proctor’s office.
