PM assures prompt action on Verma panel report

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has thanked the three-member J S Verma committee that was formed to recommend changes in law to curb crimes against women and assured that his government will act promptly on the recommendations.

“That the committee submitted its report within a short period of 30 days is testimony to your commitment and concern for the public good. On behalf of our government, I assure you that we will be prompt in pursuing the recommendations of the committee,” the Prime Minister said in a letter to Verma, a retired Chief Justice of India.
