The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked Punjab Technical University (PTU) to file a reply on a PIL opposing the varsity’s move to allow direct admissions in the second semester of BTech, MBA and MCA courses.

As per the new policy, the colleges will admit students directly to the second semester till January 22.

The petitioner, Dr Rishi Dev Anand said: “Buckling under pressure from colleges that are left with hundreds of unfilled seats in BTech,

MBA and MCA, PTU has allowed admission in second semester directly.”

PTU had argued that students who are given this type of admission cover first semester courses during summer break after the second and fourth semester.

The next date of hearing is January 17.

“A course given in one semester is connected with the course of the next semester. The students will complete first semester courses during the summer vacation after second and fourth semesters. In other words, the first semester course will be taken by these students partly in July/August 2013 and, partly in July/August 2014,” said Anand.
