The manager of a petrol pump in Shivranjani area of Ahmedabad was robbed of more than Rs 36 lakh at gunpoint on Tuesday morning.
At around 11.30 am, Pratik Patel was coming out of Sainik petrol pump, near State Bank of India branch, with a bag carrying Rs 36,26,600. Two men, believed to be aged around 40, riding a Bajaj Pulsar motorbike without a numberplate, blocked his way and tried to snatch his bag. When Patel resisted, one of them pointed a gun at him while the other snatched the bag. During the scuffle, Patelís driver Jayram Desai, who intervened to save the manager, suffered injuries on his head. The robbers then fled the spot.
As per Patelís FIR with the Anandnagar police station, the men had covered their faces with black clothes. The police said that Patel was on his way to the SBI branch to deposit the last few dayís earning of the petrol pump. The police have set up nakabandis across the city.
In another case, a local courier was assaulted near Union Bank of India ATM at Nisha Pol in Kalupur.
The victim, Kishan Prajapati, who works for RR Angadia Services in the walled city, was on his routine round of delivering cash when four men came on two motorbikes and attacked him. The police said that the robbers first attacked him with a knife and then attempted to snatch his bag. Prajapati shouted for help, and seeing a crowd gather near him, the robbers fled, the police said. Prajapati was taken to a private hospital for treatment. The police have registered a case of attempt to loot and begun their investigation.
