Pay your builder as per his rating in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 25: Good news for Delhiites. Now, they can easily do away with the tardy, complex building bylaws, which are the major deterrents in the construction process in the Capital. The Delhi government has decided to constitute a credit rating agency for buildings in alliance with Municipal Corporation of Delhi and rating agency Crisil.

The proposed agency will rate builders, architects and contractors. The ratings will be based on the building’s compliance with seismic safety, fire proofing and redevelopment norms. These norms are till now being sidestepped. Delhiites will pay the professionals as per the ratings.

Initially, the Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority, New Delhi Municipal Corporation and MCD will contribute Rs 1 crore each towards this purpose.

After the recent earthquake in the Capital, a hectic exercise took place in the modification of building bylaws, especially the ones that came into force in 1983. “A detailed draft note has been circulated for comments from the urban development ministry, and is expected to be implemented from the next fiscal,” said Delhi urban development minister AK Walia .

• The agency will judge service history, experience and market credibility of professionals and people’s feedback
