Around 300 patient care attendants of Apollo Hospital in the city went on an indefinite strike from Tuesday evening following no solution to their demand for pay hike.

A member of the striking nursing staff said the hike was overdue for at least three years. The hospital management has been ignoring their demand for last three years, they said. “They bring staff on contract basis and remove them after some time,” an employee said.

According to them, while Apollo Hospital in Delhi pays Rs 15,000 per month to this category of staff, Ahmedabad and Chennai units pay Rs 9,500 per month. They have been demanding Rs 12,500 per month salary.

Besides, there is no increment in salaries for overtime work here, a nurse working with the hospital said.

When contacted, Apollo chief executive officer Suit Sarky said, “We are trying to speak with them...let us see what comes out.”
