Parents to accompany students on bus

Following alleged molestation of a nursery student of Jamnabai Narsee School in Vile Parle (West) by a cleaner in a moving bus on January 15, parents have decided to form a support group.

Members of parents support network will take turns to accompany students on the bus to the school, run by Narsee Monjee Educational Trust, and back every day.

After the alleged molestation, Facebook group ‘JNS moms’ was flooded with messages suggesting preventive measures by parents to ensure safety of children.

The parents met the school principal and trustee Monday to discuss management plans for student safety. At the meeting, several parents volunteered to take turns to travel on the school bus every day.

“The school management has been cooperative. Parents are worried and anxious following the incident. Many of us have given suggestions to prevent such incidents in future, and forming a network was one. The school has granted permission to one parent to travel on the bus,” said a parent.

Another said, “Most parents in the JNS moms group on Facebook suggested and agreed to contribute Rs 5-10 a week to facilitate volunteer travel on the school bus. PTA is working out details and proposes to draw up a time-table for parents.”

The school had sent an email to all parents Monday about the incident and steps it was taking in the matter. The management assured parents that credentials of bus staff would be verified henceforth. The parents suggested measures such as installing CCTVs on buses and appointing
