Panjab University to add 40 more CCTV cameras, fill 80 vacant security posts
The varsity will also see the recruitment of 80 security personnel, posts of whom have been laying vacant. A total of 359 security personnel work on the campus against the sanctioned strength of 439.
At present over 60 CCTV cameras are installed on the campus. Though the proposal of installing 40 more CCTV cameras was in pipeline since past one year, the incident in Delhi and increasing reports of rape and eve-teasing has motivated varsity authorities to overhaul the security system existing on campus.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover held a meeting in the issue on Tuesday, which was attended by chief Security officer P K Dhawan and others.
Moreover, the varsity will also have an additional security vehicle to patrol the campus including the one in Sector 25 campus. At present the varsity has only one security van.
Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, Chief Security officer P K Dhawan said: “After this Delhi rape incident, we have decided to leave no stone unturned to maintain law and order in the varsity. We have already passed instructions to the security deployed on PU gates to allow outsiders inside campus only after checking.”
