Pace scare: Niggles take Ishant to Aus, Aaron to England

With the Australia tour scheduled to start before the end of the month, India suffered an injury scare, with Ishant Sharma the latest to be affected. It is learnt that Sharma faced some mild pain on his ankle post the England ODI series and after consultation with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has asked him to check with experts.

The BCCI has asked Sharma to travel to Australia in a couple of days and consult experts regarding the nature and severity of the injury. It was only during the England Test series that Sharma had made his come back after ankle surgery had kept him out for close to ten months.

With Zaheer Khan, Umesh Yadav and Irfan Pathan all still rehabilitating at the NCA, India’s top pacers remain a doubt for the upcoming series against Australia. The national selection committee will meet on February 10 to pick the squad for the series. “We don’t want to take any risks with Ishant’s ankle, so we have asked him to consult a specialist to avoid a recurrence of the injury,” a BCCI official said.

Meanwhile, Varun Aaron will also be travelling to London to consult experts on when he can start bowling. “I will be going there next week where I will be meeting a couple of doctors and seek their advice.
