New Delhi, October 19: : Orient Longman Pvt Ltd, after separating from its long associations with the Longman and subsequently the Pearson Group, has recently launched its new brand identity - Orient Blackswan Pvt Ltd.
Orient Longman brand was introduced in India in 1948 by Longman Inc of UK. In 1968, Pearson Education group of the UK took over the Longman name globally. However, in India, Longman continued to function as Orient Longman.
In 2006, Pearson filed a suit against Orient Longman to assert its right to the Longman brand and afterwards reclaimed the rights to the Longman brand in India in an out-of-court settlement. Under the terms of the settlement, Pearson returned 33 pc equity in Indian publishing company free of cost, while Orient Longman agreed to stop using the Longman brand by November 2008.
On the occasion of the launch, the Hyderabad-based publishing house also launched a new series of books meant for pre-primary to Class 8 students. The series named 'Buzzword' Communicative English for Schools consists of 26 books. The books will be part of the school curriculum in CBSE as well as private schools. The 'Buzzword' series has been written with an aim to impart skills of communication by giving pupils choice of grammar and vocabulary to converse fluently and accurately.
Orient Blackswan, through their associations with Universities Press, offers readers professional books in biotechnology, computer science, engineering, home science, management and medicine. They also distribute books published by Sangam Books, Permanent Black, D C Publishers, Spark India, and Social Science Press.
