Om Prakash Chautala's JBT scam: HC summons all 3,206 teachers on May 2
This is the same recruitment scam in which a Special CBI court has recently convicted Haryana’s former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 others on charges of corruption.
Through the publication notice in a newspaper, the court has directed all the 3,206 teachers to either appear in person or through someone authorised by law on May 2 in a case titled “Bashir Ahmed and others against state of Haryana and others”.
“When the court feels that summons could not be served to the respondents, in such circumstances, a notice is published so that the respondent cannot take the plea that he was not served summons to appear before the court. In case the respondent fails to take note of such a publication notice issued by the court, the case is decided in his or her absence,” a senior advocate said.
Meanwhile, the current Congress government, led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is yet to decide on the teachers’ fate.
A number of cases are pending in the high court regarding such teachers who were recruited during Chatala’s regime in 2000. While a few selected teachers had moved court seeking directions to the state government to promote them, others, who were not selected in 2000, had also moved high
