Washington: Other than a dish of green curry prawns, the menu in the first state dinner of the Obama Administration was an all-green affair in “a nod” to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, an “abstemious vegetarian”. Herbs from the White House kitchen garden of the First Lady were used to prepare some of the delicacies. Brought in as the guest chef was Marcus Samuellson, who was born in Ethiopia, and media here has described the fare as a synergy of Indian and African-American traditions. There was coconut-aged Basmati too, with the Indian flavoured rice making a comeback after former President George W Bush’s 2005 dinner for PM Manmohan Singh.
