An assistant registrar of National University of Juridical Sciences has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing a colleague, even as the premier law institute dissociated itself from its honorary professor Justice (retd) A K Ganguly, who has been indicted by a Supreme Court panel for “sexually unwelcome” behaviour against a lawyer.
The police arrested Siddhartha Guha, assistant registrar of NUJS, on Thursday — nearly six months after a woman employee at the university filed a complaint of molestation at Bidhannagar North police station.
“The woman had alleged that Guha had been sexually harassing her for a long time,” said Arnab Ghosh, Deputy Commissioner, DD, Bidhannagar. While the NUJS authorities could not be contacted, police sources said the woman alleged that Guha also used to send her indecent e-mails and messages.
A police officer said Guha was arrested after being questioned. He was produced in a Bidhannagar court on Friday, which remanded him in 14 days judicial custody.
