NTPC's 3,300 MW Bahr proj to start generation next fiscal

Country's largest power producer NTPC expects to start electricity generation from its 3,300 MW Bahr project in Bihar from next year.

The state-run company would first start generating power from the project's second stage, having a total capacity of 1,320 MW.

"The stage II of the project is on track and expected to start generating next financial year," NTPC said in a statement. Equipment for the second stage are being supplied

by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.

Located in Barh near Patna, the project would be second one for the company in Bihar. NTPC already operates 2,340 MW Kahalgaon plant in the state.

According to the firm, the first stage of the project – having a capacity of 1,980 MW -- is anticipated to commence operations in 2014-15.

The equipment for the first stage, which has been delayed for long, is being supplied by Russia-based Technopromexport. A delegation of officials from NTPC and the Russian firm are expected to review the progress.

Currently, NTPC is working on projects having total capacity of about 16,000 MW. The company has an installed capacity of 39,674 MW.
