Now, Shatabdi Express to ply from Moga to New Delhi
After the then railway minister Dinesh Trivedi proposed the New Delhi-Ludhiana Shatabdi to be extended to Moga, the train was finally flagged off from Moga railway station on Saturday. However, cutting across party lines, the local legislative members from both the Congress and the SAD were present at the function trying to take the credit for the event.
SAD leader Tota Singh, former agricultural minister and MLA from Dharamkot, who was also the MLA from Moga five years ago, said: “This train has reached Moga only because of the meetings that took place between me, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. We both were pressing the matter hard for the last five years.”
On the other hand, Congress MLA from Moga, Joginder Pal Jain, claimed that it was due to “Congress’ efforts for the last 10 years that has borne fruits and the train has reached Moga”. Faridkot MP and SAD leader Paramjeet Gulshan flagged off the train.
“The earlier Shatabdi express, running from Ludhiana to New Delhi, will now run from Moga to New Delhi on Saturdays and Mondays. Starting at 2.05 pm from Moga, it will reach New Delhi at 10.10 pm,” Divisional Railway Manager Naresh Chand Goyal said.
However, there is no provision of a returning train to Moga from New Delhi.
