The Department of Information Technology on Thursday launched the facility of rail ticket reservation at Sampark Centre in Sector 7. The facility was inaugurated by UT Adviser K K Sharma.

The department has enabled this service in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), New Delhi. Besides setting up a link with IRCTC’s internet ticketing service, the department has also set up an arrangement of rolling deposit where in the ticket amount would be transferred to IRCTC’s account through NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer). The operators at Sampark Centre have been trained by IRCTC and will use Digital Signature Certificates to effect generation of ticket. This facility would be available from noon onwards till 8 pm from Monday to Saturday.

K K Sharma said this service would help the residents who do not have access to Internet. Prerna Puri, Secretary IT, stated this web-enabled service of rail ticket booking at Sampark Centre, Sector 7, had been launched on a pilot basis. Based on the response it would be extended to other Sampark Centres in the city.

R K Sondh, Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC said the facility was a win-win arrangement for the public and railways. He said for railways it would save infrastructure while adding to the convenience of the public.

Two new trains on Chhat Puja

CHANDIGARH: Keeping in view the heavy passenger rush in trains due to Chhat Puja, the Northern Railways will start two new trains from Ambala Cantt to Saharsa and Darbhanga.

To clear the extra passenger rush, the Northern Railways have arranged two new trains namely, Saharsa Special (05518) from Ambala Cantt to Saharsa that will depart from Ambala at 4.15 pm and arrive at Saharsa at 10.10 pm.

The second train is Darbhanga Special (05522) from Ambala Cantt to Darbhanga that will leave Ambala cantt at 4.15 pm and reach Darbhanga at 9 pm. Both the trains are expected to make four trips.

While the Saharsa train will run on November 13, 17, 20 and 24, the Darbhanga train will ply on November 11, 15, 18 and 22. The Saharsa train will halt at Saharanpur, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur and Khagaria, while the Darbhanga train will halt at Saharanpur, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur.
